Are you having trouble finding physical therapy routines that work?
Communication for results in Physical Therapy
Written by: Alexis Skriloff James, Blogger, writer, editor
People often complain about the effects of Physical Therapy routines that do not work for them. When asked if they told their therapists or physicians who suggested they go to PT or this therapist, the answer is, “No.” When asked why not, the answers were somewhere along the lines of:
• It doesn’t matter
• they do not listen
• They do not care
• The effects do not last
• I am seeing no results
And there are usually many more reasons or excuses why the patient is not seeing progress.
Another question that is asked of the patient is, “Are you following the instructions that the PT gave to you?” Some of the responses were:
• I did not read them
• No, as I do them in therapy sessions
• They are too hard
• I forgot
• I am too busy to spend time exercising
• The stretching hurts
• I hurt afterward

Are you having trouble finding physical therapy routines that work?
Understandably, we are all busy, and sometimes it takes extra effort to adjust our time and routine, adding another routine.
However, this routine is to improve our lives, strengthen our bodies, and be able to, in some cases, alleviate the pain that brought us to the PT in the first place.
Some pain or injuries will heal, and we will be good as new. Other injuries and pains will last longer and require additional therapy and perhaps applying different methods. Then some of us need PT and keep our therapy routines going for an extended period. All these scenarios are real. However, the main point is to do the prescribed PT for the best results.
If the therapy remains painful, which is different from discomfort, call your therapist and let them know your concerns. Then the next time you go in for your appointment, a new routine may be applicable. Or you may need to speak with your physician regarding your condition.
Keep an open and ongoing dialogue with your Physician and your physical therapist for optimal results for your personal and individual condition. Not all routines work for all diagnoses. While physicians and therapists are trained to their best, bringing the latest medical and physical information to you, their patients. However, remember that you are the only one who knows your feelings. Communication is the best way to regain your health.
